11. What other facilities could be expanded or reduced?
| Comments: | local area maps with turnpoints marked on. None of the EU rounds were in the school holidays, therefore, despite wanting to attend, I could not. Please can we have just one or two in the school holidays, as a teacher, this all but rules me out of the UK comps, which is a real shame. None - the comps are some of the best I do (and I do a lot) Now that size of comp is less critical, 70 being the average Cat 2 comp and now that British Results will count for nothing in Team Selection. Perhaps we return to a more elite group of competitors and aim more at pilot quality. Less pilots to marshall who are better ground handlers etc. Less expensive dealing with the huge 150 pilots and all the trouble that comes with it. On line track down loading after task Hospitality/parties Retrieves vital, missed at Long Mynd, though we coped. Would like prior notice if no retrieves in future. A chat page for all competitors so that we can advertise wanted & available transport/lifts would be good well before the comps. If money is tight, spend it on the essentials - running the comp, not on parties & T shirts. If people want to spend extra on those, they can make that choice during the comp. Alternatively, as they are booking, add those as extras so that you can budget more accurately & not make too many shirts/shorts/fleeces etc. More can be on offer & made to order (though that would presumably be a lot of work for someone!). Also with the email forum, it could work as a site for exchanging/buying/selling second hand kit - ideal for exchanging stuff when we meet at the comp. Overall, very impressed with the organisation during my first year of comps - long may they continue like this! Tony Blacker (happy to not be anonymous) A central 'groups' type contact pages linked to this to assist in organising transport/accomodation sharing. Practice week / weekend / days. Pre comp maybe I believe that this years was run well other than no Retrieves at the UK round I think there should be greater emphasis on team flying and in particular having each team led by one (only) very experienced pilot, with (all) other pilots in the team being less experienced and mentored by the experienced pilot. I think this would result in closer competition between teams and also help less experienced pilots to improve. Obviously this requires the experienced pilot to be willing to impart their knowledge, rather than being in the competition purely for what they can get out of it. Provide camping facilities - could be very basic, but at least a toilet. British organisation is very big compared to other countries, don't need to compare with PWC. Always give trophies for 1 - 2 - 3 even if it is something very small. I wrote an email to the comps panel just after the Long Mynd event with all my detailed comments. Paramedics are brilliant, but only if you crash anywhere near them. This is rarely the case though. maybe look at utilising the interned based task tracklog download as used in the Nordic open this year More clothing |
